The project “Accelerating Electronic Monitoring in Tuna Fisheries for Strengthening Transparency and Addressing Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing (EM4IUU)” is a Global Environment Facility (GEF) full-size initiative aimed at increasing transparency and sustainability in global tuna supply chains. It seeks to expand and strengthen the adoption of electronic monitoring (EM) systems across three Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs), at least six coastal States, and multiple private-sector actors. The project focuses on improving monitoring capacity, integrating EM into national and regional policies, and generating global technical knowledge to help reduce IUU fishing.
This initiative is implemented by Conservation International (GEF Implementing Agency) and executed by The Nature Conservancy, with an estimated budget of USD 6 million and co-financing of USD 50 million.
AAE has been hired to lead the preparation of the full Project Document (ProDoc) and the GEF CEO Endorsement Package, including stakeholder engagement, gender analysis, safeguards, results framework, budget, and all related technical components required for GEF approval.
