The consultancy, developed for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition of Ecuador, within the framework of TC EC-T1479, aims to design and implement sustainable solutions that strengthen sanitary conditions and support tourism development in prioritized Amazonian communities. To this end, the consultancy will:

  1. design and construct dry toilet prototypes that separate liquid and solid waste, helping improve environmental health and prevent groundwater contamination;
  2. prepare a diagnostic assessment and baseline for sustainable tourism, analyzing the current and potential tourism offer, environmental pressures, and local capacities; and
  3. develop a pilot project for sustainable local tourism in the community of Runashito, aligned with its Life Plan.

In addition, community capacities will be strengthened for the operation and maintenance of the dry toilets and for the management of sustainable tourism, incorporating gender, intercultural, and intergenerational approaches.
