The Government of Haiti has secured financing from the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery under the Resilience to Climate Change funding window to promote adaptation of ecosystem-based solutions as layers of protection to transport infrastructure in Haiti. AAE together with MexTypsa are working on the design of two pilot sites to install EbA and hydrid solutions to protect one the country’s main roads and the provision of a set of guidelines on how Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA) and hybrid infrastructure protection can strengthen the country’s resilience to natural hazards and climate change and provide for economic growth through support livelihoods of vulnerable communities.

Main tasks

  • Literature review and assessment of existing capacity and framework
  • Draft implementation package for piloting under associated World Bank investments
  • Produce guidelines on nature-based solutions for the protection of physical infrastructure assets
  • Capacity building and dissemination

Main outputs

  • Inception report
  • Diagnostic and site selection report, consultative multi-stakeholder workshop, and existing capacity and framework assessment
  • Design package for pilot activities
  • Guidance document
  • Training, dissemination event, design of information posters, final report and executive summary
