To address persistent barriers faced by Indigenous Peoples in accessing climate, conservation, and development finance, IUCN has contracted AAE to carry out a consultancy to support PODONG in the development of an Indigenous-led financial mechanism. The mechanism aims to enable direct, inclusive, and culturally appropriate access to financial resources, while respecting Indigenous rights, governance systems, and self-determined priorities.
Key Deliverables:
- A participatory stakeholder engagement process and report identifying Indigenous-preferred financial access pathways and advisory structures.
- Visual tools illustrating stakeholder relationships, fund access pathways, and governance and financial advisory structures.
- An analytical review of existing Indigenous-focused financial mechanisms, highlighting successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
- A summary slide deck presenting key findings and recommendations.
- A detailed design document for the PODONG Financial Mechanism, including governance arrangements, financing options, access modalities, and a phased implementation roadmap.
